These famous landmarks (地標(biāo)) are all located along the central axis (中軸線). As the best-preserved (保存最完好的) core area of the old city of Beijing, the central axis is now under consideration for UNESCO’s World Heritage status.

這些著名的地標(biāo)性建筑都位于北京中軸線上！作為北京舊城中保存最完好的核心區(qū)，北京中軸線申遺一直備受關(guān)注。

The central axis refers to (指) the “line” that separates the eastern and western parts of Beijing. At 7.8 kilometers long, it runs from Yongding Gate in the south to the Bell Tower and Drum Tower in the north. Its building started in the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), and continued during the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
